The question is how true to the version of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein was Kenneth Branagh's movie?
I believe the basic plot was the same, but Kenneth Branagh took several liberties when he made the movie. The timeline was shortened by Branagh, but this was necessary to fit the story in a proper frame of time. Even though he altered some scenes, the message that Shelley was trying to point across to us was not altered.
The differences in the description of the monster was one thing I noticed. In the book, the monster was described as having long, flowing black hair. In the movie, the monster had little nubs of hair over his scarred head. This gave him a more monsterous look and I'm sure was more scary to the viewer.
The biggest difference I noticed though was at the ending where Walton askes the monster to come with them. This shows that they had compassion for the monster and wanted him to come back with them. This was not part of the book at all. It did show that humanity could have accepted the monster, something he wanted all along.
